Fried Sweet Plantains

Plantains can be prepared in so many ways however, this is probably by far the easiest. Fried Sweet Plantains can be an appetizer, a side dish or just a simple snack to munch on while you watch your favorite TV shows.

If you don't know what a plantain is, just think about that banana like object you've seen at a Walmart or your local supermarket. Plantains are part of the banana family. They are larger and can only be consumed cooked.

The first step is selecting the plantain. The riper plantain, the sweeter and softer it will be.
(Don't worry about the dark areas, they're perfectly fine)

*Heat 1/3 cup of vegetable oil in a pan.

Cut the the ends of the plantains, and using a paring knife, make an incision in skin, cutting from one end to the next.

Peel the skin away from the plantains, then slice on the bias as shown below

Place slices in hot oil and fry until golden brown on each side.

Once done, remove slices from heat and place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper to drain the excess oil then it's ready for the eating!

The entire process takes about 12 minutes from start to finish. So what are you waiting for? Go try it!
